delights.

The kitchen has been getting a workout. I am not sure if it is the inevitable nesting bug {32 weeks?} or just a need for more wholesome and delicious meals in this hectic space but we are cooking as a family and loving it.

If only I thought to take some photos as we create. A few have been captured.

I lived in Japan for two years when I was young and miss the quick gyozas and ramen noodles that we could devour as fast food. Craving was sorted on a night home alone {p sleeping} with a homemade and veggie version. Simple and divine.

1:: wonton wrappers and chopped red cabbage, sprinkled with sea salt and ground black pepper.

2:: fill dumplings and use a fork to make the edges...frilly.

3:: serve with a sauce of ginger, soy, rice wine and chili flakes. Kimchi ramen necessary to accompany.

:: this scrumptious mix is a recipe for apple, oat & maple slice. Found at this scrumptious space.

:: we ate it as both a soft granola bar and warmed up with vanilla bean ice cream.

Proof of kitchen life. Messy but nourishing. As I am learning all areas of life should be.

belated boo.

Although Halloween is not a huge holiday here, it was important for our girl to get to see some of what this Canadian mama grew up doing.

So on went the fairy skirt and wings, a jack-o-lantern carved, and the very important task of rinsing the pumpkin seeds to roast {with curry powder and sea salt} taken on by our precious girl.

So a belated boo to all of you.

dreamy.

Does anyone know where this amazing image was found?
It has been stored away on my computer for when I had another critter in my belly. Voila, I found it today and can't source from where.
How amazing is this space.
I know I for one would quite happily settle down for a rest inside my own moon.

embracing life.

Mornings had never been my favourite time of day. I could stay in bed, with the curtains pulled tightly closed, pretending it was still night and closing my eyes to seal out any light that did find it's way to me.

Even once Piper was born, I struggled to grasp how I could be out of bed {at evil times like 4:30} and often took hours to come to terms with the day.

Things have changed. The other morning when I opened my eyes, this is what I found. A little soul watching the birds in the garden. She embraces life. She celebrates moments and wants to savour every hour of the sun being in the sky.

I am learning so much every. single. day. of this motherhood journey.
Embrace light.  Embrace life.

morning sunshines.

I have been playing the single mom role this week. Monsieur away on business and me, my rather large bump, 2 dogs, 2 chickens and a surly toddler are guarding the home. Mix this with teaching daily and a rather fussy eater {just when things are under control in other areas} who likes to wake with the chickens every morning and BAM, thank goodness Friday is here.

That all said, this face, eating my bagel with cream cheese {nothing else could pass her lips this morning}, melts me.

I am blessed.
Happy Friday all,
♡ ashley

p.s. have just ordered this whole foods for children book. anyone had a read?
